Optic height is one of the most important decisions when configuring a rifle. The height of the optic affects the relationship between the shooter’s head, the rifle, the rail, and other equipment mounted around the receiver.
Reptilia offers 1.93-inch optic heights across its mounting lineup for shooters who need additional clearance and prefer a more heads-up shooting position.
WHAT DOES 1.93″ MEAN?
A 1.93-inch optic height refers to the approximate distance from the centerline of the optic to the rail of the rifle.
Compared with traditional lower optic heights, a 1.93″ mount places the optic higher above the rail. This changes the shooter’s relationship to the rifle and creates additional physical clearance around the optic.
The result is a configuration that can be particularly useful on modern rifles carrying additional equipment around the receiver and top rail.
WHY GO HIGHER?
The primary reason to choose a 1.93″ mount is clearance and shooting position.
Modern carbines can carry a significant amount of equipment around the optic, including aiming lasers, night vision devices, thermal equipment, clip-on systems, and weapon-mounted lights.
Raising the optic can provide additional separation between the optic and surrounding equipment, helping create a more usable configuration.
A higher optic can also encourage a more upright, heads-up position behind the rifle. For some shooters, this can make it easier to maintain a consistent sight picture while wearing equipment or shooting from a more upright stance.
1.93″ AND NIGHT VISION

One of the most common applications for 1.93″ optic mounts is rifles configured for night vision.
A higher optic position can provide additional clearance between the optic and a helmet-mounted night vision device. This can be useful when transitioning between passive aiming and other aiming methods.
The 1.93″ height does not eliminate the need to properly configure the entire system, but it provides another option when optic height and equipment clearance are important considerations.
1.93″ AND LASERS

Modern rifles frequently use top-mounted aiming lasers and other accessories that occupy valuable space around the receiver.
Moving the optic higher can create additional physical separation from those components.
This can help prevent equipment from competing for the same space and can make it easier to configure the rifle around the shooter’s preferred grip and accessory placement.
1.93″ AND HEAD POSITION

Optic height also changes how the shooter interfaces with the rifle.
A lower mount generally requires the shooter to bring their head farther down toward the stock or receiver. A 1.93″ configuration allows for a more upright head position.
This can be particularly useful on carbines configured for modern shooting positions where the shooter maintains a more heads-up posture.
The ideal height ultimately depends on the individual shooter, stock configuration, optic, and intended use.
REPTILIA 1.93″ OPTIONS

Reptilia incorporates the 1.93″ height into multiple mounting solutions, allowing shooters to select the mounting platform and optic interface that best fits their rifle.
AUS MOUNT 1.93″
The AUS is Reptilia’s one-piece scope mount designed around a lightweight, rigid interface between the optic and rifle.
The 1.93″ AUS is available for multiple optic diameters, allowing shooters to build a higher-mounted LPVO or other variable-power optic configuration while maintaining the AUS platform.
The 1.93″ AUS is particularly well suited to rifles where clearance, a heads-up shooting position, and compatibility with additional equipment are priorities.

1.93″ DOT MOUNTS
For shooters looking to run a standalone red dot at a higher optical centerline, Reptilia’s DOT Mount™ lineup provides 1.93″ mounting solutions across several of the most common optic footprints.
Each DOT Mount is machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum, uses a Type III hardcoat anodized finish, and attaches directly to a standard M1913 Picatinny rail. The spring-loaded nitrided steel clamp and flush mounting hardware create a streamlined, anti-snag profile while keeping the mount lightweight and rigid.

ROF CONFIGURATIONS

Reptilia’s ROF system allows compatible red-dot optics to be integrated with the AUS mount.
The availability of 1.93″ configurations provides shooters with a way to build a higher primary optic setup while maintaining a compatible secondary aiming solution.
This can be particularly useful for configurations involving passive aiming and other close-range sighting requirements.
1.93″ ISN’T FOR EVERY RIFLE
A higher optic isn’t automatically better.
The correct optic height depends on the rifle, optic, stock, shooter, and intended application.
A lower mount may be preferable for a traditional precision or hunting configuration where a low cheek position and minimal optic height are priorities.
The 1.93″ configuration makes more sense when clearance, equipment integration, and a more upright shooting position are important.
The goal isn’t to choose the tallest mount possible.
The goal is to choose the height that works with the complete rifle.
BUILT AROUND THE SYSTEM
Reptilia approaches optic mounting as part of the complete rifle configuration.
The optic, mount, receiver, stock, aiming devices, night vision equipment, and shooter all influence one another.
The 1.93″ height gives shooters another option when the standard mounting height doesn’t provide the clearance or shooting position they need.
Higher when it needs to be. Purpose-built where it matters.
