This makes taller optic heights particularly useful for passive aiming under night vision and for shooters wearing a protective mask or other gear that can make a traditional, low cheek weld more difficult to maintain.

The tradeoff is straightforward: as optic height increases, so does the distance between the line of sight and the bore.
